Micro/Macro: British Art 1996-2002 Kunsthalle Mucsarnok, Budapest, Hungary 21st March – 1st June 2003 It is more than fifteen years since the British Council mounted a large group exhibition in Hungary. Micro/Macro will present more than ninety works by twenty-one artists who have risen to prominence in the past ten years. Focussing broadly on the way in which their work has examined relationships to the world around them, whether this be through the microcosmic view of the autobiographical, or imaginary private worlds, to the macrocosmic engagement with political issues and systems of belief. Artists in the exhibition are: Roderick Buchanan, David Burrows, Adam Chodzko, Jeremy Deller, Tracey Emin, Anya Gallaccio, Douglas Gordon, Mona Hatoum, Emma Kay, Michael Landy, Sarah Lucas, Chad McCail, Mike Nelson, Mariele Neudecker, Paul Noble, Simon Periton, Grayson Perry, George Shaw, Keith Tyson, Mark Wallinger and Gillian Wearing. The exhibition is a collaborative project, jointly selected by the director of Mucsarnok, Dr Julia Fabenyi and Caroline Douglas, Exhibition Curator in Visual Arts. The Kunsthalle Mucsarnok will publish a substantial catalogue to coincide with the exhibition, with a text by the British critic Alex Farquarson, as well as full colour reproductions of the works exhibited and biographical and bibliographical information about each artist. A number of the artists will travel to Budapest to install their work and a series of lectures and seminars is being planned for the week preceding the opening of the exhibition.
